The Pacers are putting on a show and making a case for the best team to start out this NBA season. With a 10 -1 record, this is the franchise best start of the season. This team fell short of the NBA Finals last year, this year they look determined to get there. Roy Hibbert is commanding the post down low for this team averaging 11 points and 9 rebounds a game.

On the outside, Paul George has dominated scoring 24 points a game and becoming a true leader on the team. With all these compelling stats, they have to be the best team in the league, right? Well, if you take a look at the schedule and who they have played, they have beaten New Orleans, Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, and the struggling Nets and Knicks. All these teams, so far, have losing records. In there two games with a strong opponent, the Bulls, they split the series one a piece. In the first matchup, the Pacers won, but it was a close game. Their defense kept them in the game against the Bulls, allowing Derrick Rose to only score 17 points. Yes, only 17 points. They lost the next matchup between the Bulls at the United Center.

The highest scorer for the Pacers only scored 14 points, and Derrick Rose along with Luol Deng combined for 43 points. I realize basketball isn’t just the highest scorers, but defense wins championships and the Pacers struggled to hold the Bulls on offense. With the Pacers starting off the year with a 10-1 record, things are looking up. But when looking back, the teams they have had to play really don’t say a lot for this team’s strength. Don’t be surprised if this team struggles a little bit as the season moves along. I believe that this team can compete for the championship, but it will depend how they can do against tougher opponents.
